It seems there has been a lot of speculation lately about the Fortis Pistol… and we have had to sit back and watch, reluctant and unable to say anything. Which makes it that much harder for us to now say that the most pernicious of the internet rumors are true: the Fortis Pistol is no more.
There is only one reason for this decision, because we have been able to get the rights to use the original Bren Ten name and logo… The Fortis is now the Bren Ten!
We have to apologize for the last several weeks; we have been in sort of a self-imposed blackout while we have been negotiating the agreement to use the Bren Ten name. This is something that we really wanted, in order to make the release of our pistol truly the continuation of the legacy – and something that we have been working hard to make happen.
Of course, that is not the only thing we have been working on… the Fortis project has continued, it never has been in jeopardy. The malignant internet rumors are exactly that, rumors on the internet. We also have been working hard to keep our existing products going out of the door; we have contracts and support service for military weapons and the overwhelming demand for anything firearm related with the general public. Vltor makes a lot of parts that are the mainstay of many dealer’s product line, as well as OEM parts for other manufacturers and vendors – while the opportunity was certainly there to take advantage of the situation, we actually shut down our commercial internet sales and focused on keeping out product shipping to our dealers and distributors.
The Fortis was announced with the intention of it being one of our upcoming projects, during a time when our production was starting to outpace demands; there is no way we could have foreseen the unprecedented demand that has swept across the firearms industry. Even before the recent increase in product demand, we were in the process of bringing in new machinery and people; in the last few months we have brought in literally millions of dollars worth of new machinery, much of which is just for the new pistol. In one area alone, we have added four new horizontal milling machines, each with multiple pallet changers, we have modernized our metal finishing shop to keep up with the increased demands, yet not compromise an ounce of quality – and even with all of these steps to modernize and improve production, we have not cut a single job; in fact, we have added more production and development staff to continue production and support development.
So, here is the word from Rumor Control:
- The first issue of the Fortis Pistol will be released as the Bren Ten.
- There is nothing wrong with the design, it is working fine.
- Yep, we have magazines… lots of magazines.
- The project is not broke, nor has it been sold, it was fully funded from the start.
- “There must be something going on” – there was, we were waiting to see what name to mark on the slides of the new pistol, we like Bren Ten. We are sure you will too.
Thank you for the update.
I still want 2 MV 45 ACP Bren Ten models. Also 12 mags. When can I place my order? Where do you want me to send the money? When will I get them? Thank You!
Bren-Ten will be fine. I would have bought it as fortis and I would be happy. It is the concept not the name that I am buying. A Delta Elite has been in my Holster for 20 years now. cocked and locked in 10mm.. A 100 yard pistol if needed
I dont mind how long it takes. I will wait for it, I am requesting #13 Bren Ten because its the luckiest thing to happen to me in a long time.
That is Great that you can call it the Bren Ten.Good work guys and yes the Bren Ten name goes on.I can’t wait to get one or two of the Bren Tens.Thank you for the update.Keep up the good work and hope to here a release date soon.
Man, you just made my stomach knot up for a second! thanks for the update!
Eric,
thanks for the great news…right from the source, as well!! Appreciate the update, responsiveness and the candor in addressing some concerns and rumors…and the rumors of rumors. A LOT of folks will rest easier tonight.
Patience is its own virtue. Great News and many sincere thanks for the update. I understand that this project is a ‘labor-of-love’ for Eric and obtaining the rights to “Bren Ten” is important to him. For me, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet and I remain eager to get my hands on this pistol, whatever it may be called as long as it is built to meet the high expectations. I would like to place a ‘vice’ model with some extra mags in my Christmas stocking. Again, Many Thanks and how about some pictures of the new Bren Ten.
Thank you Eric and staff for finally giving us some information.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!! Thanks for the update! Can’t wait to get my hands on one.
Thanks for the update. In the e-mail we talked about conversion barrels for these fine pistols. I hope this also becomes a reality.
Looking for the BUY BUTTON option…Miami Vice Classic.
Thanks!
I’m very excited and also happy for Vltor and Bren Ten!
Thank you for the update yes i also had a lump in my throat with the fortis is no more line !!!

still want one. really looking forward to this. thanks for the news dah
Thanks so much for the update and all I can say is that the blackout was worth it. You can’t blame folks for being skeptical due to the history of this gun but it seems like VLTOR is the real deal!!! You have made my day. I am especially thrilled that the gun will be named the Bren Ten. It’s not the name we are buying but THAT is the gun we all have lusted over for so many years. I will be standing by and ready as soon as you guys let us know it’s time to buy!!! Thanks again and congrats on the marketing coup!
Thank you so much Eric. I can’t wait to have another Bren Ten to add to my collection and I plan on shooting and yes, even carrying it. Eric, as a member of the Bren-Ten Forum I hope you let use pre order. I want a Vice Model to begin with. A version in .45ACP and then….
Sounds great… when? Money’s a-waiting….
Now…produce…and…prosper!!!!!
Get Don Johnson in a one page ad promoting the Vltor Bren Ten saying/quoting perhaps: “I remember this gun!” and you will do more for the Vltor Bren Ten than anyone ever did for the past version. Mark my words.
Pre-order by Fall and ready for December delivery would erase all the hard feelings we all had during the “blackout period,” including myself.
Don’t let this stagnate any longer.
I like Bren Ten too.
Great update !
Thanks Eric
Thanks, Eric. We are anxiously awaiting your release date.
Nice update Eric. Man it was getting to be a tough crowd here for a while!
It will be nice to call it a Bren Ten, but I want one to call MINE, whatever the name on the side might be.
Any update on ordering or delivery dates?
I still have the same question.
Will I have one by Christmas?
I’m thrilled to find out that my favorite pistol of all time will live again. I miss my original, and I’m going to need one of the new ones as soon as orders are available. Keep up the good work!
i read the first paragraph and damn near shit a brick, then i read the next paragraph. the name Bren Ten is even better, although i would still buy the gun even if it was called the Vltor donkey dong.
Awesome update! Thanks!
When can we order! Excellent news!!! M&P Version please!!!!
Eric
You sly dog you. That has to be the icing on the Bren Ten(Fortis)cake to bad Cooper isn’t here.
but he knows. Thank you for the update. NOW when can we order??
Thanks again
JD
Thanks for the update, keep the info coming.I am in for a 45 and a 10mm.
Awesome. Awesome awesome awesome. I’m glad the name Bren Ten gets the nod, and I can’t wait to see them locally. More 10mm Auto options, especially quality ones, are always a welcome market addition.
There can be only one name for this awesome pistol and that is “Bren Ten”–the name given to it by the late-great Colonel Jeff Cooper. Thank you for making this happen! The legacy of the Bren Ten can now truly continue on… Please check out our book “BREN TEN: The Heir Apparent” on Bren-Ten.com so you can learn the exclusive story how this incredible legacy got started in the first place.
Scared the bejesus out of me with that first paragraph. Thought you were pulling a D&D. Should have known better. Make mine all stainless in 10mm with at least 6 magazines. Thanks for the update and please keep us posted.
I am constantly checking the site so thanks very much for the update!!!
I am ready and have a secret stash of cash ready for the release date – or pre-order whenever you are ready.
I have two consecutive serial number Bren 10’s now and need to add more to the collection.
Can not wait until production is released for comsumption, which will surely go quickly.
Please continue to keep us updated and congrats on the upgrades to your facility.
God Bless America!
Well Done Sirs. I apologize for my earlier skepticism. May the force be with you.
I have been waiting for over 20 years. Congrats on the Bren Ten rights…it has been worth the wait. I will take two Miami Vice Models and 12 magazines. Please tell me when i can place my order. It has been a long time coming…but it seems with your perserverance, and pursuit of excellence. Not only me, but many will finally have the ICON we have so longed for.
Sincerely,
Michael
Just to clarify…I will take two Miami Vice models .45ACP and 12 mags…see note above! Congrats on the Bren 10 rights…please notify me and i will pre-order!!!
Michael
Your website heading needs to be changed to “V Bren Ten” or something like that and scrap the “Fortis” name.
Thanks for the news. Thanks also for hopefully once and for always closing the fear factory. Having read the interesting but paranoia inducing book on the history of the “original” Bren Ten, I was as concerned as anyone about the painfully familiar signs of woe. Vltor is a corporation and I can easily picture a scenario where investors would have forced the plug to be pulled because resources could be more profitably devoted to production of existing products rather than taking a chance on a risky “experimental handgun. Happily that is not the case. Those of us who have wanted one of these guns since the 80s–before it was on TV by the way, I was interested from the G&A article (and I did have one for a period of time and then foolishly sold it when I thought the Falcon was going to be produced) have been many times disappointed. Forgive us for being easily frightened when we see things that look like repetitions of the past. For me, the scariest part was not that the blog wasn’t updated frequently. It was that there has not been a PEEP of anything from the gun press. They usually jump on things way early and I can’t think of anything anywhere that mentioned the resurrection of the Bren. I might have missed something but I read most of them and I don’t remember seeing anything other than that video blip I saw on the G&A website I wrote about here a while ago. As is everyone who reads this blog, we are really, REALLY looking forward to the day when these guns are available. So Vltor, forgive us our fears. And for us, be patient. Not everything in life will fall under the heading that we Americans so demand–”immediate gratification.”
Cheers.
Mark
Man, I almost dropped a load in my shorts when I read that first sentence! Still, great work on obtaining the Bren Ten name and logo. There were cries in the wilderness for this to happen, and I commend Vltor for making it happen.
Whenever the Bren Ten comes out, I will be in line to purchase a Vice Classic. I can barely believe that it may soon be a reality!
I hope a scandium alloy frame version is offered to reduce weight for carry, without sacrificing strength.
Eric,
Thanks for the update. Congrats on the upgrade to your facility and staffing requirements. I appreciate your dedication to this project and the continued support given the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. When the Bren Ten is released for purchase make mine a double and upsize on the magazines!
SEMPER FI!
Joe

I orderd the Lifeline Shoulder Rig from Ted Blocker today for my Vice Bren 45acp. Thay will still make them and glad too do it. I called Galco and thay had no clue the bren Ten was coming back. Thay will not at this time make a shoulder rig for it. I’ll have leather for my 2 new Vice 45 acp models. A a place to put the 12 mags. 2 at a time. Now I need to send Eric some money!
OK, that was nnnnot funny. After reading the first paragraph, I managed to survive full cardiac arrest, only because I had just enough strength to read the next paragraph. It was so hard listening to so many fellow 10MM enthusiasts get downright UGLY with their comments. We were all a little apprehensive because of the long pause since the last update, but after this stunning revalation by Eric, I believe we can all agree,it was worth it. Congratulations are in order to both Eric and Vltor for scoring the Bren Ten name and keeping his faith to the project. We should all keep faith as well. We all want a Bren Ten or two and we all dream of owning lots of magazines for it, so all I need is the update that will tell me when to place my order. I want two 10MM’s and five mags each. Oh, and where is my T-shirt that says “The Bren Ten is back and Eic said I could say so, Nuff Sed.” Keep up the good work and keep in touch with us. I can see Col. Cooper smiling from Heaven. Standin by.
Vltor/Eric,
I was very excited when I discovered that your company was going to resurrect the Bren Ten! I have also been reading your blog on a regular basis. I hope the bad behavior of some people have not discouraged you in your pursuit of this project. I am amazed that some people believe that your updates are anything other than a COURTESY. Most manufacturers wouldn’t bother with periodic developmental updates, much less an online blog, and it is to your credit that this website even exits! Even though our society has grown accustomed to instant gratification, I still am amazed/disheartened at the immaturity of some of the people who have posted to your blog. Obviously these people do not understand the process of bringing a product to market, especially one as legally challenging and complicated to manufacture as a modern firearm.
THANK YOU for taking on this project, and I am eagerly awaiting the chance to purchase one of these pistols! I applaud your service to our soldiers, who maintain and protect our freedom, and thank you for your time.
We were “crying” because we thought the gun was dead.
We (all) lust for the gun too.
Okay well… I asked for an update.
..
This was one hell of an update. BTW.. post some more pictures dangit!
This is one of those guns I just have to get. I have wanted one since I first read about them and saw them oh so many years ago when they were first out. The styling is awesome and a 10mm is an awesome cartridge!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait.
Great news indeed! Can’t wait too get one or two! I still think an email needs to be sent to those of us truly interested. Thanks for the update and give it to us!!!!!
I am very excitied about the new Bren Ten. I will buy both the Miami Classic Model, and Specials Forces Model.
Regular readers of this blog have a great historical perspective on the unfolding events and issues…especially when they manage to stay objective, evaluate the sources of information available here and elsewhere…
Yes, we’re excited about the prospect of this becoming a reality, we’re grateful for the effort it takes to undertake such an endeavor…it’s recognized as being a courageous risk on Eric’s part and seeing it through with Vltor/Abram’s Airborne support…a regular reader would be fully aware of such things…if some folks want to pretend to assume the moral “high-ground”, they better educate themselves on the issues and causes before they pontificate whilst sipping on their Kool-Aid…
As for the rest of us, we’ll wait patiently, sipping our own Kool-Aid, waiting for the time and opportunity to enjoy a new Bren Ten at the range!
Droll. Very droll. Someone owes me a new pair of boxers.
Looks like I’ll have to resume frequent visits to check up.
Congrats on securing the Bren name. I hope this iteration will become a classic.
I’m really glad to hear it’s the Bren Ten now, and I thank you guys for the update. Personally I want to know what the 10mm model is going to be rated for in terms of hot loading. I want my 200grain JHPs flying at 1300ft/s. I hope the new Bren Ten can take it.
I want a stainless steel full sized Bren-Ten, please! If this pistol shoots as good as it looks, I want one! I have been longing for a return of the Bren-Ten since the demise of Dornaus and Dixon. I can’t afford an “original” Bren, but if I make some sacrifices, perhaps I can obtain a new model. This is a dream come true! Will we have a market debut before Christmas? I certainly hope so!
Thanks
Congrats on securing the Bren 10 name….that just makes this pistol sweeter. Any product produced by your company will be of very high quality. Please tell me how to place and secure my order. Thank you.
I have not been this excited for the release of a weapon since the original Bren. Must…show…patience…
I commend your company on putting the priorities on product support & manufacturing for the troops first. Now that a name change (i.e. acquiring the rights to a brand name/trademark) has been secured and there are no add’l problems, why don’t you announce the launch date? One way to stop a rumor is to provide the info.
Lets make 2010 the “Year of the Bren Ten!!!”
First, I certainly accept your apology Eric, and secondly, congratulations on obtaining the rights to the name: ‘Bren Ten’. After 115 days, or 16.43 weeks, or 3.83 months of silence, it’s very nice indeed to hear from you. I do hope that it won’t be any longer than 2 months before we will hear from you again. Obviously, everyone contributing to this blog, has a great interest in this pistol. Regular postings with updated production and release information, and possibly a few new photos, would go a long way in stimulating and maintaining anticipation among the loyal following and encourage the newbies. I’m still unsure how you propose to handle the client’s choice of serial numbers on their firearms, or the criteria to be employed to determine how you will be accepting all of the pre-order reservations from your loyal customers? Anyway, I’m very glad the project appears to be back on track. All I need do now, is to once again re-save the $1,800.00 I already spent on other firearms. I guess you could say that frustration can be a nuisance. However, the point that I’m shooting,
have been shooting, and will continue to shoot right up until the time that the Bren Ten is released, is of some consolation. Good luck and God’s speed with the Bren Ten Project.
Fantastic news on the Fortis….now Bren Ten update!!! I know we have to be patient…good things come to those who wait! One issue for all of the 10mm fans to consider is the shortage of ammunition in 10mm right now. Alot of companies have phased out producing ammo in the 10mm caliber. Feel free to correct me anyone, but as far as I know in full power loading you have pretty much the choice of corbon, winchester silvertips, and Hornady. My last trips to the local gun stores as well as cabella’s and Bass proshop brought me hope with a whopping 3 boxes of 10mm ammo. So word to wise, get what you can while you can. I know plenty of you reload, but for those of us who don’t, get it while the going is good. Ok with that said….I WANT MY BREN!!!! I WANT MY BREN!!!!!
Please, oh PLEASE hurry up!!! I have a “viced” original Bren Ten that needs retirement back in mothball back in CONUS. I would love for nothing more than to DEROS next summer from South Korea, with several already paid for brand new Bren Tens awaiting my arrival at the local gunshop back home, along with a few boxes of Norma 200gr 10mm Auto that are ready for launching.
Keep me in mind when time for ordering comes up. I am patiently waiting!!!
Don’t know if it’s been mentioned/discussed already, but recommend you dump the horrid push button safety as found in the original Bren Ten pistols once you get to regular working models.
GREAT NEWS!!! As a devoted 10mm man, and somewhat of a skeptic that the Bren would ever be revived, I’ve been watching this website for several months waiting to see what will become of the Fortis. Now, I can almost taste it! Put me in for a couple!
“Qui omnes insidias timet in nullas incidit.”
(He who fears every ambush falls into none.)
I am ready & waiting to buy a standard size in 10mm. talked to my FFL guy so he can send a copy of his FFL to you. OK any time now
Just tell me three things….
…When,
…Where,
…How Much!
Joy, joy, joy!I knew this was going to happen. Now I’m off to Vegas, hehe!
Quote: “Don’t know if it’s been mentioned/discussed already, but recommend you dump the horrid push button safety as found in the original Bren Ten pistols once you get to regular working models.”
DON’T LISTEN TO THIS GUY, keep it a Bren Ten, an copy of the original is part of the appeal. Make sure you let us purists, aka 10mm guys, have the first shots.

Mike misunderstands/misinterprets my advisory. The fist original Bren Ten pistols released the shooting public were without the push button safety in the slide. After the recall, pistols were returned to owners with it and not always the slide numbered to the frame. The few production models that followed incorporated the push button safety.
Not only is it located in an inopportune place, it’s totally unnecessary. It’s incorporation was dictated by a legal decision to cover liability issues. Make the legacy Bren Ten models with it, if you must. But make the regular working models that follow without it. The KISS principle applies.
Had I retained my Bren Ten, I’d have deactivated the push button safety before employing it for serious purposes.
My Ted Blocker Bren ten shoulder holester came today. I also have one from my S&W 645 and 4506 models. A true work of leather art! Now I would like to buy the clips for the 2 MV 45acp. No FFL needed. I live in VT. No round limit. I have the funds for 12 45acp clips. I think I do. Do not know what thay cost each? Then I’ll have leather and clips and just wait for the 2 MV 45acps. Thanks for your help.
I will buy your 10mm Bren Ten or whatever you want to call it.
I have too many Vltor products to list and LOVE my 10mm Glocks. I know it’s time to move up in quality and construction in the 10mm world but there are so few choices. Glock is filling a void and getting a lot of people to enter the 10mm market, so don’t blame them.
After buying both 10mm Glocks and adding all the LWD parts you can buy you’ll either stop and get a girly caliber or move on up to the Bren Ten or Colt Delta Elite. I’m going for both…
WHERE DO I SIGN UP? I’LL PAY IN FULL IN ADVANCE IF THE CHECK IS GOING TO VLTOR!

This statement is patently false! The “Bren Ten” ever built without the crossbolt safety in the slide was the original prototype and THAT gun wasn’t even originally called the Bren Ten.
Bruce
This is one of the only handguns that I’ve seen in the last few years that has really gotten my attention. With that said, my attention span can only go so far….
Looks like I’ll have to buy three Bren Tens now! My son found out I sold the Special Forces Light. No Love Lost– did it in anticipation of the FORTIS. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the hard chrome? I’ve been a stainless fan for many reasons. Will the new Bren have a better quality stainless? Answers to my questions are probably somewhere on the blog and other sites but I would like to hear from solid shooter experience.
Comments are sincerly appreciated,
Joe
Where is the buy button? Need a list of dealers we can buy from!
What about direct marketing,ie; “GunBroker”…then the gun can be shipped to FFL locally?
Hey 9/11 is right around the corner. Great day to bring out and announce the Bren Ten in the fight for Freedom 1911 03 30-06 09 09/Bren Ten. at the very least an up date to where we are going
Thanks JD
Hello. I’m very much looking forward to the release of the Vltor Bren Ten, but what I haven’t seen yet (maybe I missed it) is a tentative release date. Is there ANY proposed date for these pistols to hit the market? Will we see them by the end of this year? Thanks!
JD…that’s very good! Wish it were true!!
One thing that many of us are concerned about, and would appreciate it being clearly and decisively addressed, is the quality of the magazines which will actually ship with the Bren Ten and be available from Vltor. Witness magazines are of marginal quality and have an established track record of being such…it would be an incredible travesty to go to all of the effort and trouble to “get it right” as continually professed…then hugely drop the ball by using a substandard magazine for use with what should be an premier firearm.
Cheers
I will be attending the SHOT show in Las Vegas in Jan.2010 & I certainly hope that the new Bren Tens will be ready to be ordered. I am going to bring my checkbook with enough $$ to order 1 standard model & 1 viced model. I am the owner of an original SM in perfect condition that I keep as a collectors item & never shoot. I keep my S&W1006 for use at the range with whatever full power ammo I can get. I hope that the new Vltor Bren Tens will be able to shoot a steady diet of full power ammo as originally designed by Norma for the Bren Ten in the early 80’s.
Thank you Eric for taking on this project to reserrect the Bren Ten & making all of our dreams come true, even if it has been almost 25 years since D&D stopped production. Long live the BREN TEN & Sonny Crockett!!!
I was shocked reading the first paragraph of Jul 27 update, but happily relieved by the Good News. Will there an picture/video update on 10/10?? THAT would be nice, or as another mentioned above, 2010 – Year of the Bren.
May I also suggest pairing the Bren with Hugh Jackman, say in a new Dirty Harry movie? Product will FLY out the door as it did with S&W Model 29. We do love to see our heroes in action with the best tools for the job…
I wonder, would a Vltor Bren Ten be “too much gun” for a first pistol.
I Think you should wait till next year. It would be the year of the Ten 2010 Bren Ten I like the ring of that. Hey can I be the frist to get me one of those new 2010’s you know the BrenTen 2010.
I can’t wait till next year. I knew something is making you wait. The year of the 10. I was not around for the 1911 but I will be here for the 2010 or as what’s his name would say a Double Ott
Bren ten. Am I on to something or what.
Thanks JD
On a whim I called Vltor the other day and specifically asked when we might see this fine pistol available and was told that one might reasonably expect to see it after Shot show in early 2010.
Well its been over a month. Time for another update please!
How about some cool pics of slides that say “Bren Ten” on them???
Pretty please??
Double Ott?
Double Ott? Bought an AR with my first Bren Ten savings earlier this year, but ready again for a Vice model. I agree, the wait is the wait. Let’s do it.
I’m sure that bringing a new product to market requires a ton of work, especially if its a brand new system (as opposed to minor changes in existing designs). While I was excited after the 2010 Shot Show when I got to see the prototypes, I was still doubtful that the product would have been released until late 2009 at the earliest. As such the delays did not concern me much. I am glad that the name Bren Ten has been acquired. I believe that it will give the project an aura of authenticity. Additionally, I suspect that the things they have been learning this year will make final production much smoother.
One each Special Forces Dark for me please.
It’s October People. I am having to re-save my savings as well. I got a PTR91 with mine.
I am still planning to buy both the Standard Model & a Viced model. I cant wait until the SHOT show, but unfortunately that is still 3 months away. I am going to get to the convention center as soon as the doors open on Tuesday morning, 01/19 & the Vltor booth will be my 1st objective. I am going to find Eric & ask him when I can make out the checks payable to Vltor. I also want to get a few extra magazines for both guns. I guess in the meantime I will have to go get out my vintage D&D Standard Model & the 1st 2 seasons of Miami Vice dvds & just continue to be as patient as possible. Again, I want to say Thank you to Eric & everyone at Vltor for making this dream come true, even if it is taking a long time to bring them to market.
I’ve been building a 1911 with my Bren Ten money. Fusion frame, Caspian slide with a mix of Wilson Combat and Ed Brown parts. Plus now I have car payments with my brand new V8 Camaro SS (also soon to be banned by the Socialists/Liberals). Perhaps, by some time next year I can afford a Bren Ten?
Eric how about an update. Can we really expect to see the new Brens after SHOT? Thanks.
Ok, It is Oct-20-09, By my count, 85 days since last update and 91 days to shot show 09. Tick, tick, tick, and counting…..
@David…a lot of us share your sense of anxiousness, and then some…but as anyone here might tell you, don’t go holding your breath waiting for an update!
@Surf, hope you can afford one or more, but again, that’s providing that they are available next year! Awesome car! How about a review? Shame that that Government Motors decided to shelve the Z28…Ford would have been desperately scrambling to catch up!
“But…I read it on the internet”
Too funny…ironic, but funny
And, unfortunately true…with the dearth of information from the trumpetted “official site/source” combined with the obvious interest and pre-marketing run-up to whenever the new Bren Ten will actually be demonstrated to be a reality…I suppose the rumor mill, leaked sources on other sites, etc. the maligned “internet” is about the sole source of bad information, much of the time!!
Oct-21-09/86 days SLU, 90 days to Shot Show 09, Opps 2010, year of the Bren Ten. Counting…..
When is the Shot show and where is it being held. I live in New Jersey do I have a chance of going to that show?
Jimmy, Shot Show is going to be Jan-19-10 in Las Vegas. Ads are showing up in some of the gun magazines. That would be 89 days from now and 87 days since last update…hint, hint, counting
Jimster, I’ve been breaking my LS3 SS M6 nice and slow (no power runs yet). I’ve kept my old 2002 Z/28 M6 as my daily beater (no slouch with it’s modified LS1 motor). I should be able to swing the Bren Ten with my tax return money (federal stimulus money – sales tax write off [for new auto's] this year on the schedule A).
My soon to be ex-wife has taken my Kimber Raptor II and my HK P7M8, which were my two favorites. I need a new Bren Ten to fill that void. Please can we have an update? I need to know if I should start to hide money from her.
Ok Eric, You have everyones attention, Any little bit of info would suffice. Anyway, this is the evening of Oct-25-09, 90 days SLU and 86 to Shot Show 2010. Raif, goahead and start, just be polite and above all discreet…… ;=}
Thanks David for the info.I think vegas is a little to far for me.I think the money that it would cost to go out to Vegas I could buy a new Bren Ten.If it is really going to happen. So thanks again Dave.
“I’m sure that bringing a new product to market requires a ton of work, especially if its a brand new system (as opposed to minor changes in existing designs)”
This IS a rework of an existing design, not a brand new product. For example, I’ve heard that a Vltor Bren Ten top half will fit & work correctly on an original Bren Ten frame. If this is actually so, how much different can it be? This information came from a supposedly reliable source.

Jimmy, was thinking the same thing and came to the same conclusion.
Open note: A wiser sage than me once said, “Be Patient,” So I shall be. Seems to me it will all be worth it. The Torch is in good hands.
Be Patient yes I will be but could we have an update on November 10 in Honor of the Marine Corps Birthday Semper Fi. Bren Ten in 2010 does have a ring. Do you want a 1911 or a 2010 next year
is going to be great I can not wait Now does any one want to hear me sing the Marine corps Hymn

Is there any reason as to why there has been no update to this Vltor OFFICIAL Fortis/Bren Information site since July? Is this how your company is showing us it’s future customer/warranty service by totally ignoreing it’s future customers? I Don’t care what you update. Any newa that you are still alive would suffice. Tell us how the parts fitting is going, Or for me can I order my MV Bren .45 with Ambi-Safetys as I am left handed. There is a lot you can update. But IGNOREING future customers is a sign of a very poor business practice. That attitude needs adjusted this minute, or you will lose any cutomer base that you were trying to build. Like I said there are questions that can be answered in these updates. There is no reason to ignore future customers, unless you don’t want any customers at all.
What about the magazines? This is the one we get all the time… more than a few of you have figured it out though: we have designed the Fortis to use commercially available magazines from the EAA Witness line of pistols – we will of course offer our own Fortis magazine, but you will be able to use over the counter Witness magazines. Oh, and we have thousands of magazines on the way.
Soooo, when this bad boy is released in 2010 (hopefully) what magazine will the Bren Ten come standard with, the VLTOR designed mag or the EAA Witness magazine? Will the VLTOR magazine and the EAA Witness magazine have different part numbers? Will VLTOR stand behind the EAA Witness magazines if they are sh*t? IMO, since the VLTOR magazine is a newer design it should be a better mag and if I should decide to purchase the Bren Ten pistol I will want, no demand, the VLTOR magazines for my pistol.
I gotta agree if you want support from people you ought to take the time to inform them what’s going on. Its been 3.5 months since your last update. Right now you are definitely looking about as reliable as Dornaus and Dixon were.
As quoted below… and in addition, this is TERRIBLE customer (potential) support. I was saving up $$ for one but this is RE_DONK_ULOUS!!! I am putting my $$ in a real product. Who cares if you can call a Phantom pistol a Bren-Ten, GIVE US SOME F’ing UPDATES ON A REGULAR BASIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me and my $$ are G-O-N-E!!!
“I gotta agree if you want support from people you ought to take the time to inform them what’s going on. Its been 3.5 months since your last update. Right now you are definitely looking about as reliable as Dornaus and Dixon were.”
Considering the amount of work that VLtor’s having to do to catch up to demand for AR parts from the civilian, law enforcement, and military community, I’m not surprised that there hasn’t been an update for a while. I would not be surprised if they’ve had to pull people off of the Bren lines to work on all the other stuff they’re pumping out.
I would not be surprised if the Bren hits in early 2010 and is a fantastic product. This is part of the problem with the internet age: too many people expect things immediately, and cry like children when they don’t get their way.
“Stop with the negative waves! It’s a mother-beautiful bridge…and it’s gonna be there.”
I don’t understand the whining, Vltor showed a pistol a long time ago they planned to bring to market, as far as I can tell, this isn’t going to be a huge potential market for them. Which market do you think they can stand to piss off, the AR/LE/MIL crowd or the Bren Ten crowd? Clearly they made a business decision and decided they could afford to offend the Bren market more than the AR market, seems to make sense to me, probably what I would do as well.
If you think there are millions of buyers for a new Bren, get a manufacturer’s license and go make it. This is a niche pistol, traditionally chambered in 10mm which has at best a large cult following. If you are that upset about your ‘almost customer service’ go buy something else. Go pick up a 1911, a CZ or Tanfoglio, coming on here and pissing and moaning isn’t doing anyone any good. From my experience, Springfield Armory has been hands down the worst company for customer service, and I was an actual customer when I had this problem, not a potential-maybe someday if you make a pistol I want before I get too cranky-customer. So my advice to those who feel betrayed, go pick up a sloppily assembled Brazilian 1911 loaded model. Experience true pisspoor customer service.
Also, I’ve never bought anything from Vltor and the only product I’m interested in from them is the Bren Ten. I have no experience with their customer service, and I wouldn’t consider myself a customer, until I actually pay them to do something.
Well I guess we are Not yes Not getting an update for the Marine Corps Birthday. Well Christmas is coming yes. Bren Ten in 2010.
Thanks JD
Cannot wait for the Bren Ten. Just wanted to leave a comment so Vltor knows they have at least one more guy who WILL be buying one as soon as they are available.
From what I can tell and what Vltor has stated, no news is good news folks. I hope they take all the time they need and do this right, I can wait for a premium product. The last thing I want is for this to flop because it was rushed.
Just my opinion.
Wah,Wah,Wah! Would all you whiners, almost, would be, and maybe, possible, future, potential customers please go to another playground. There are enough of us true afficionados here who know that we are spectators at a world class chessmatch. If you wish to attend, then you should know that the rules of decorum require a certain expectation of manner and behavior. The atmosphere of the crowd is different from that of a baseball or football game, where enthusiastic antagonism and heckling are called for. All I’m saying is, I’ve been waiting since 1984 for the Bren Ten to become a truly regular production series. There have been many disappointments along the way, so I, like many others, are really appreciative of Eric Kincel for not only taking on a truly massive project, but for being forthright enough to “do it right,” despite the criticism from of those that are just plain impatient. I’m one of those people who is also an AR15 owner. I have several Vltor AR products and they are all outstanding items of precise manufacture. As a customer, I have always been treated with friendliness and professional courtesy. So, I have no reservations that when the proper time comes for that long awaited announcement,”The Bren Ten is finally here,” I will be pleased and satisfied. Remember when Mom used to tell us, ” If you don’t have anything good to say, keep it to yourself.” You never know who might be taking notes…
P.S. Eric , am extremly pleased with the BC USA charging handle.
@David…you make some good points and I largely agree with you. The host at a worldclass chessmatch has certain obligations and protocols to conform to, as well. In this case, Eric, or whomever set the rules of this endeavor, but ultimately, it was Eric who set the ground rules for this blog, established the expectations for what he was going to do, which we all greatly appreciate, but then it got a bit askew and the fashion with which it was handled could have been more honestly dealt with. So, if you’re putting yourself in a position to be an official defender of Eric, Vltor, etc…please review the history and how issues developed and why before you start criticizing whomever because you disagree with their grievances, real or not.
Personally, I’m absolutely charged that Eric had the vision and motivation to bring the Bren Ten to be, originally as the Fortis and thankfully as the Bren Ten, and to do it with the intent and execution to present a truly premium pistol to the market. It will be, I’m confident, more than the original legend could have ever been expected to be…and we’re at the cusp of that exciting adventure that Eric afforded us the opportunity to enjoy and I’m grateful. Eric will have truly given shooters a pistol which will be unrivaled by anything out there on the market, literally.
In retrospect, was the blog a good idea? If it had been executed as originally intended and claimed, yes, it could have been a very good thing and, in fairness, there were some aspects that were very good and well done…but predominantly, it wasn’t executed well and that definitely set up the provocation, however unfortunate, but in cases understandable and justified, for misgivings and cynicism…Impatient? Hell yes! Willing to wait a bit for perfection? Absolutely! Is the ill will manifested here solely because of impatience…some, I would say is due to that and some folks got their shorts in a bunch…but many others, like myself, just simply desired the host to genuinely play by his own rules…regardless of whether the news was good or bad, “bad” being a very subjective term…
Eric, good job on the BC Charging handle. I just put the Mod 4 on my Sabre Defence, love it. Great product and excellent engineering. Can’t wait to see the Bren Ten. Where can we pre-order them?
I agree with David but I haven’t had this much anticipation anxiety since Christams eve 1980!!!!
Only a little more than 2 months until the SHOT shot in Las Vegas. That cannot get here fast enough. I just have to remain as patient as possible until I get to the convention center & go to the Vltor booth to talk to Eric. I most certainly hope that the Shot show will be the time that we can start to place orders for the new Bren Tens because I will be ordering both a Standard Model & a Viced model. Dont know what else can be said other than that we all must continue to remain as patient as posible for the new Bren Ten because it has an extremely long time coming to see anything like this. It has been approximately 24 years since D&D stopped production way back in 1986. I have waited this long, I will very happily wait another 6 months if I have to, as long as this Bren Ten is an absolutely perfect masterpiece that will finally fulfill Jeff Coopers dream. Long live the Colonel!
Jimster, Now we’re talking. It seems we are largley in agreement. I think askew fits most aptly. Way back, when this blog first got started, Eric set out to keep us informed by way of updates from the Fortis Project, but wasn’t going to be answering individual questions back and forth to avoid all that ‘you said , no, I said, no, that’s not what I said…..You know the routine. Anyway, I admit I’m a bit dismayed that one person at Vltor wasn’t specifically designated as the updater of the blog. It seemed to me, that the updates would be at least a little bit more regularly periodic, like a new message at the beginning of the month. I don’t think it was so much a matter of Honesty as it was one of frequency. Now as far as grievance goes, I see it this way. I was delighted to have found this sight because I have always been such a big fan of the Bren Ten and Col. Cooper. I come to this site strictly to quench my thirst for info on the Project. A lot of the time there’s nothing new, but no problem…It does dishearten me that some of our group can’t seem to voice their complaint without getting nasty or testy. I tend to think much more is accomplished by maintaining an honest, critical, civil discourse. I haven’t appointed myself anybody’s official anything. Eric seems to strike me as a big boy capable of fending for himself, so how about we just say I felt we all need a little reminder every now and then that we are all really on the same side. We’re all Bren Ten soldiers. Ok, nuff sed. 67 days to Shot Show 2010. Thanks everyone, for hearing me out. Dave
Hmmm, posted in July, 117 comments, and no new word from VLTOR.
You guys may have the best pistol ever made on your hands, but you also have the worst P.R. ever. Why even start a blog when updates are so few and far between?
John,
Thanks for the kind words in regards to your post.
We appreciate you interest.

Good news. Eric is alive. Eric, I just wonder. Will it be possible for us blog followers to see pictures of the Bren Ten on this blog before the shot show? I don’t care about updates I would just like to see some pictures of the finished product.
After nearly 4 months of silence, Eric finds the time to take a dig at a would-be customer who is frustrated by the long time with no information.
BAD FORM. Worthy of James Carville.
You have proven his point about “the worst PR ever,” first by attacking him and second by continuing to provide no information whatsoever.
If this is how you choose to treat the people who are eagerly waiting to give you a thousand bucks or more, how can we expect to be treated after the sale?
Eric
Hey buddie how you doing. Christmas is coming and so is 2010. If 2010 is less then 45 days away.
How about an update to close the year out. It has been a pleasue talking to you and wish you great luck in the coming year. I know that you have been so busy. Pictures and update to end the year would be nice. I wish I had time to drop in and see you but I am busy to with my business.
Have a great Thanksgiving and if I don’t hear from you have a great Christmas and New Year.
Thanks again your Customer
JD
Internet wounds will be healed soon. Thanks for finally (unofficially) announcing product will be available shortly.
Got tired of the wait
On the prowl for a good used Smith & Wesson 1006/10026
I got a EAA Witness last year, got rid of it because of technical issues (constant jamming) horrible Customer Service and it cannot take full power 10mm loads without cracking the slide anyway (no matter what recoil spring you use), only the “FBI Lite” loads, equivalent to a 40 S&W…(I have already an excellent .40, so why bother?)
When the Vltor Bren Ten will be well established (inevitable initial glitches, quality of Customer Service, etc..) I may venture in getting one…I let the early adopter be the guinea pigs.
This initial delay is not encouraging anyway…
John shouldn’t feel like the Lone Ranger. He isn’t the only one to be crossed off Eric’s Christmas Card list.
B.
Actually, you’re on a list, but it’s not actually a Xmas Card list

I hope Bruce is on the short list to get a new Bren Ten! I understand that he must have a good stash of 10mm! I have some virgin brass that hungers for a new Bren Ten. Photo’s or even distant action shots of the new Bren Ten in action, please! We need some kind of eye-candy Eric! Give some hungry dogs a bone. Thanks for your efforts to bring us the Bren Ten.
Eric,
And it seems that you are going to be on Santa’s Nice List with all your efforts.
GreyWolf
Eric,
I just wanted to check in for any updates, but I imagine you are quite busy with preparations for SHOT. I hope you and your family have a happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas!
Thanks again for your hard work, and I’m really, really looking forward to seeing the Bren Ten for sale soon. I will continue to check the blog daily, as I am eager to place an order!
Eric, Vltor, And all my Bren Ten Brothers,
I’d like to extend a very fond wish of prosperity and plenty to all of you this Thanksgiving Holiday. May we be grateful for all we have, good food, family to be with, and a dream soon to be reality. Eat hearty my friends and Blessings to all.

Eric,
Thanks again for bringing my dream pistol to life. As someone who tried unsuccessfully to buy an original Bren, I can say that this wait, while filling me with Pavlovian salivation, is definitely worth it to obtain a modernized high quality Bren. Thanks again for all your efforts and Happy Holidays. Looking forward to an update soon!
