Staying the Course…

We just wanted to make a quick update and let everyone know that things are going great. It is no secret that the current climate and associated “gun buying frenzy” has all manufactures and dealers buried with demands… but amazingly we are staying pretty much on track with the Fortis.

Rest assured, the current economic situation will not hamper the development or production of the Fortis. We identified what we thought were shortcomings with the other attempts to bring this pistol to market and eliminated or overcame those concerns from the start; this project was fully funded at the beginning

Check out the picture of the receivers! We are calling these the last of the preproduction receivers… the next time we order receivers, it will be the big order, and that day is not at all far off. Again, thanks for hanging in there, it will be worth the wait.

Fprtis PIstol receivers after undergoing final QC inspection and waiting for the machine operations -- by the time you read this, they will be being made into the last run of pre-production guns, the next round will be for delivery!

This is the pistol for which the shooting world has been waiting! If the Fortis can take the “original” Norma ammunition pressure levels and with excellent accuracy we’ll have a WINNER!

The Fortis will be the “Bad Boy” of the handgun world, providing the stopping power for which the 10mm Auto Pistol Cartridge is so justly famous. In .45 ACP, The Fortis should prove to be a perfect platform for the old miltary cartridge. This should be a viable candidate for a USGI pistol.

    Let the field trials begin!

One Dozen things I want to do to my Fortis (well, my second one anyway).

    1. Square and straighten the forward part of the rear sight hump for positive one handed cycling off your belt.

    2. Leave hump for protection but machine out rear sight and replace with Bo-Mar

    3. Reduce and Blend magazine button to prevent inadvertent ejection of magazine. Increase spring tension if necessary.

    4. Front strap machine out the grooves and Stipple.

    5. Rear strap machine and Stipple.

    6. Install gold bead front sight or SDM insert in stock sight

    7. Weld up or remove and polish Calvary-era Lanyard stud for comfort of Concealed carry.

    8. Polish out groove in front of Trigger Guard!

    9. NP3 Internal parts and Magazines

    10. Purchase a “To die for” set of Custom Wood Grips.

    11. Six inch Barrel

    12. Deep Polish and Blue Slide, Color Case hammer/Trigger.

I have several products for my long guns and they are super so I have no doubt that the pistol will be everything you say. I have several high end 1911 platform and they were all well over 1K so sign me up for a full size 10MM.

I may have missed it but what about the sights. Night statndard or will after market be availble.

OK I will test one of these for you for free I might even return it. I feel with my LE and military background I would give a fair assessment of the pistol. Oh OK I guess I will but one. Put my email at the top of the list I have my FFL ready.

Thanks for making what several of us have been waiting for

    2. What I want to do to my Fortis when I get it:

    A) Carry it.
    B) Shoot it.
    C) Clean it.
    D) Repeat above steps.

Terrific, what will be the process to purchase a pistol? I am a 26 year military vet and presently a civilian LE and SWAT member. I’ve wanted a 10mm duty platform for quite awhile, but nothing grabbed my attention like the Fortis. Keep up the good work.

What do you mean when you say the slide to frame fit will be perfect? Will it be like a Sig P210 or more like a CZ-75?

    December 22, 2008 at 12:33 am

I’ve always wanted to get to handle and shoot a Bren Ten but have not had the opportunity. I never figured I’d be able to afford to buy one of the few out there that people occasionally decide to part with. So I’m ecstatic to know I’ll now get the chance to own my very own. Thanks Vltor for having the vision and the dedication to this project.

I’ve been reading thru all the postings and I hope that when it is released there isn’t a lot of complaining as far as what finishes and options and all that are not initially available. People need to understand the manufacturing process and understand that it’s impossible to come right out the gate with a thousand options of finishes, slide lengths, sight options, caliber offerings, conversion kits, etc… Let us all thank our lucky stars and be happy that Vltor has made it possible to get any version at all. If we are all patient I’m sure the offerings and options will come. I have to say I am sad that Santa won’t be putting one in my stocking.

The engineer side of me has to ask, what kind of tolerances are being used to produce the perfect fits? Have you stepped up the tolerance requirements over the original production guns to take advantage of modern CNC capabilities and hard milling techniques? Any initial accuracy test results you can share with us to show the fruits of all your labor?

Can’t wait to see the order list open up. Happy Holidays to all.

I have been following the progress of this project since the rumors first started.
I also have the opportunity to work first hand on a new arms project and from the way your company has approached this one will assure that you will produce a world class weapon that will be very desirable.
And to be able to work on such a highly iconic pistol from are past that never really was able to get off the ground.
So you guys keep up the good work and best of luck on this.

Wow, how did I miss this until today? I will buy one as I am somewhat a CZ75 type of pistol fan and this pistol is fanastic. Something about milled from stock intead of MIM, casting and molded slides and frames. I like the idea of not reinventing the magazine. Feel free to e-mail me when you are ready to sell. I now have to totally re-adjust my 2009 gun buying plans.

Thank you so much for what you are doing. Other pistols have followed on to the 10mm auto design, but you are doing the shooting world a great favor in taking the original design and reworking it with all the things that gunmakers have learned since. The Bren Ten got some bad breaks, and with you doing what you are now hopefully it will finally get not only the just praise for the design, but the success and place in the shooting world that it deserves.

It is also a great example of respect by a master gunmaker to go to a classic design to “bring it out of the stone” so to speak and back to prominence. If the Fortis goes over big years after the Bren Ten debuted, it will not only say a lot about the design being ahead of its time but a lot about you guys. Most of all, people looking for a fine pistol for competition, target shooting, duty use, everyday carry or home defense will have access at last to the type of pistol Cooper, Dornaus and Dixon originally envisioned. A fusion of worlds in handgun design.

Congrats on SHOT show, the EOTAC forums say you guys made your debut there.

I was at the Shot Show this past Sunday 1/18/09.I handled, cycled, drooled over the four pistols on display and as a Bren ten owner and collector I have to say that the pistols surpassed my expectataions. That has not happened in a while. And according to Eric….”these are only the the prototypes and have not been tweaked” “I just put them together”.One of the best single action triggers from a factory gun that I have experienced in a while.Kudos Eric.Great Job.I will talk to you in the fall.

While I love shooting, I don’t do a lot of it – family and budget take care of that! Currently, I’ve only purchased a S&W 686 revolver, but have shot tons of guns owned by family and friends. I say this because I want vltor to understand that I WILL be purchasing one of these Fortis pistols once they come on the market.

I was a rabid “Miami Vice” fan in my youth, and the chromed Bren Ten is like a Holy Grail when it comes to firearms in my mind. The mystical quality is what draws me to it, and I can’t wait to hold one in my hands. That you are faithful to the original design speaks volumes about your dedication to the project.

Rest assured, if you can hold to the under $1000 expected retail, I will be placing an order. Thanks for taking on such a loved and revered piece of gun history to resurrect!

I traded dearly for a single tone Special Forces model Bren Ten, years ago. Within six months the extractor got a little chip on a corner of the claw and it has been a single shot pistol ever since.

I anxiously look forward to buying the faithful yet updated and improved Fortis in the Special Forces version! It would also be a dream come true to eventually get a replacement extractor for my original.

Before the crippling injury, my original was THE handgun of choice. Shootable. Effective.

Others have failed and disappointed. Thank you for taking on this project and having the vision and will and $$$ to see it through.
